Amendment to the CAO: Sunday Premium for the Food Industry

A change regarding the Sunday premium under the Food Industry Collective Bargaining Agreement was recently announced. The premium will be increased to 50 percent, except for employees who already worked on Sundays in 2021. This group will receive a 100 percent bonus in 2021, up to the maximum number of hours worked on Sundays. This applies through 2024,

How will the new regulation be reflected in the statement of revenue and expenses?

The last week of 2021 runs through January 2, 2022. We have decided to have the new regulation take effect on January 3, 2022, Week 1.

The 50% Sunday premium automatically applies to all employees who begin their employment after December 31, 2021. R&R considers the historical date of employment.

For employees who began employment before December 31, 2021, the number of hours worked on Sundays during the period from January 1, 2021, through December 31, 2021 (or from the date of hire) will be calculated on a one-time basis. These calculated reference hours will be shown on the employee card in Week 1 of 2022. These times can be adjusted.

The reference hours are used to calculate the Sunday premium at 100% for work performed on Sundays in 2022. If an employee works more hours on a Sunday than specified in the 2021 reference, they will receive a 50% Sunday premium for the next hour worked on a Sunday. The same mechanism will be applied in 2023 and 2024, with the 2021 reference hours always being taken into account.

If you, as an employer, decide to grant an individual allowance, you can specify in R&R at the employee level that the Sunday allowance has been bought out. This option is only displayed for employees who began their employment at before January 1, 2022. These employees will then always receive a 50% premium when they work on Sundays. Starting Sunday, January 5, 2025, all employees will receive a 50% premium for Sunday work.
