Wiebke Meyer works as a UX designer at R&R. Together with her team, Wiebke is responsible for the user experience of R&R’s workforce management software. In her role, she is involved in various activities, such as designing the user interface and the product’s visual appearance, as well as organizing user tests. In an interview, Wiebke talks about her job as a UX designer, her internship, and her (future) career path.
In 2019, Wiebke had just finished her studies at the University of Gothenburg (Sweden), was back in the Netherlands, and was looking for an internship to complete her degree in the Netherlands. Through a third party, she learned that R&R was looking for a UX designer. After hitting it off right away, the deal was quickly sealed: Wiebke started working for R&R. As a young talent, she joined a trainee program after completing her graduation internship. As part of this program, the young newcomers receive intensive guidance in various areas—both personally and professionally.
Wiebke: “The internship was a lot of fun and very educational. You’re guided through several fixed and flexible modules. You also get to know yourself on a whole new level. In the personal leadership module, I learned a lot about soft skills. That was truly impressive. In addition to receiving guidance, you also work directly in the field within the organization and on various teams. You’re truly a colleague like no other. This combination of intensive coaching and gaining practical experience is extremely valuable.”

When it comes to personal and professional development, it’s especially helpful to take the initiative yourself. You’re also given a lot of freedom. If you want, you can consult with them at any time, but otherwise you’re given the space you need. You grow because you really have to take action on your own. In short: You’re challenged to shape your own development. This has also had a very positive impact on my personal development.
R&R’s organizational culture also supports my professional development. I find the work environment very pleasant. It’s a truly open culture with an informal atmosphere. You have a lot of contact with various colleagues and teams. Plus, there’s always time for a chat with coworkers and some fun in the workshop. It’s also great that the company is always open to new ideas or specific courses and training programs—even if they fall outside the existing framework. We always discuss what’s possible together and in consultation with one another.
It really challenges you to shape your own growth. This has also had a very positive impact on my personal development.
I hope that we’ll be able to grow and expand significantly in the coming years. That way, we can develop even better software and offer our customers even greater value. Above all, I see plenty of room for personal growth. I also like the fact that I’m more or less obligated to continue developing my skills in my field. You simply have to keep up with all the new trends; otherwise, you’ll fall behind.
Developments within the organization are very positive. We are truly moving toward being more open and transparent with our customers and users. Communication—both internal and external—is improving noticeably. Of course, we always see room for further improvement. For example, by involving our customers even more closely in our activities and communications.
R&R is always looking for ways to improve. We now break down major areas for improvement into smaller, incremental steps that can be tackled quickly. That way, you really see a positive change, and it's great to see that!
